Promoting School Success

Project Boost is a free, research-based program that teaches parents how to support school success for their children. Research has shown that kids who have a stronger bond to family and school will stay away from risky activities such as substance abuse, violence, and delinquency.

The United Way, CDAC, and the Department of Children and Families (DCF) responded to the high drug use in the area by coming together to develop a model for Project Boost, which seeks to empower the residents of the low income housing communities.

The program is offered to parents who may face more life obstacles than others. Parents involved with the program receive 5 group parenting classes, as well as multiple home visits. Quarterly workshops are provided within communities to increase awareness on important topics such as hurricane preparedness, violence awareness, and other health promotions.
