Alcohol:

Depressant - Liquid form taken orally

SYMPTOMS: Causes depression, aggression, slurred speech, loss of coordination; frequent use: cirrhosis, pancreatitis, vitamin deficiencies, malnutrition; fetal alcohol syndrome, dehydration

 

WITHDRAWAL: Mild: Shakes, anxiety, hyperreflexia, diaphoresis, hyperactivity and GI upset. Moderate: anxiety, tremors, insomnia and excessive adrenergic symptoms Severe: profound alteration of sensorium including disorientation, agitation, and hallucinations; along with severe autonomic hyperactivity including tremulousness, tachycardia, tachypnea, hyperthermia and diaphoresis

Cocaine:

SIGNS: Increased alertness, excitation, euphoria, increased pulse rate and blood pressure, insomnia, loss of appetite

 

SYMPTOMS: Constricted peripheral blood vessels, dilated pupils, and increased body temperature, heart rate, and blood pressure. Some cocaine users report feelings of restlessness, irritability, and anxiety, both while using and between periods of use. Agitation, hallucinations, increase in body temperature, convulsions, possible death

 

WITHDRAWAL: Apathy, irritability, long periods of sleep, depression, disorientation

Codeine:

Narcotic -, taken orally or injected

School Boy

SIGNS: Euphoria, drowsiness, respiratory depression, nausea, constricted pupils

SYMPTOMS: Slow and shallow breathing, clammy skin, convulsions, coma, possible death

WITHDRAWAL:  Watery eyes, runny nose, yawning, loss of appetite, irritability, tremors, panic, chills and sweating, cramps, nausea

Dextromethorphan

Narcotic - cough syrups combined with a mixture of soda/alcohol and taken orally, cold and cough capsules

SIGNS: Heavy sweating, stagger, rapid eye movement, flushed skin

 

SYMPTOMS: High body temperature, dry mouth, blurred vision, hallucinations, delusions, nausea, stomach pains, vomiting, irregular heart beat, high blood pressure, numbness in toes and fingers, red face, headache, loss of consciousness, seizures and hallucinations.

 

WITHDRAWAL: Watery eyes, runny nose, yawning, loss of appetite, irritability, tremors, panic, chills and sweating, cramps, nausea

Ecstasy/MDMA:

Hallucinogen & Stimulant - Tablet or capsule taken orally

SYMPTOMS: Anxiety, elevated blood pressure, jaw clenching, dry mouth, blurred vision, after 1 hour replaced by relaxation, euphoria, and increase empathy. With overdose: restlessness, paranoia and anxiety. Places you at risk for cardiovascular instability, arrhythmias and hyperthermia. Followed by lethargy, and anorexia. Possible long term psychiatric complications including: depression, anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia, difficulty in concentrating and short term memory loss.

 

WITHDRAWAL: Depression, anxiety, panic attacks, sleeplessness, de-personalization

GHB and Rohypnol:
